Interbank Quiz Night Celebrates Knowledge and Camaraderie

In a thrilling display of wit and camaraderie, the Interbank Quiz Night hosted by the Institute of Bankers of Zimbabwe (IOBZ) saw representatives from seventeen Zimbabwean banks battle it out for the coveted title. The Quiz Night, held on 22 March 2024 at the prestigious Rainbow Towers, witnessed a remarkable showdown, with CABS attaining 3^rd place, FBC 2^nd and NBS ruling the roost at 1^st place amidst fierce competition.

In his opening remarks the IOBZ Chairman, Mr Courage Mashavave applauded the participating banks for their dedication to preparing their teams which he said reflects the importance they place on fostering a skilled and knowledgeable workforce within the Zimbabwean banking sector. He buttressed the importance of the Quiz Night in enhancing financial literacy, promoting healthy competition and building fellowship by transcending individual banks allowing the industry to come together. He encouraged the participants to enjoy the night, win or loose, and formally declared the Quiz Night officially opened.

The atmosphere crackled with intellectual fervour as teams clad in distinctive attire exuded confidence and preparedness. Laughter and friendly banter echoed throughout the venue, highlighting the spirit of camaraderie among participants. In Kaizen fashion an application called Mentimeter was used to administer the quiz whereby participants would log in to the Mentimeter on their laptops and answer questions from there. A leaderboard would pop up after every set of questions revealing the positions of all banks from the accumulative points per set and this aroused excitement and anticipation for every round.  As the competition unfolded, anticipation hung in the air, adding to the electric ambiance of the event.

The questions posed during the quiz spanned a diverse range of topics, testing the teams’ knowledge across various domains like General Knowledge, Spellings, Banking & Finance and Zimbabwean History. Participants were required to think on their feet, drawing upon their expertise and quick-thinking abilities to provide accurate and timely answers.

The quality of answers provided by the competing teams was commendable, reflecting the depth of knowledge and expertise within Zimbabwe’s banking sector. From intricate financial concepts to obscure historical trivia, participants showcased their intellectual prowess with confidence and precision. Each correct response elicited cheers from teammates and admiration from rivals, underscoring the calibre of talent present at the event.

Events like the Interbank Quiz Night play a crucial role in fostering a sense of community and camaraderie within the banking industry. Beyond the realm of daily operations and transactions, such recreational occasions provide an opportunity for professionals to unwind, network, and showcase their talents in a relaxed setting. Moreover, they serve as a platform for intellectual stimulation and knowledge-sharing, promoting continuous learning and growth among industry peers.

In his closing remarks, the IOBZ Executive Director , Mr Fanwell Mutogo noted that the Quiz Night left attendees with a renewed sense of pride in the intellectual prowess and collaborative spirit of Zimbabwe’s banking sector. He encouraged those in attendance to move forward carrying learnt lessons and togetherness into their daily work, fostering a stronger and more vibrant financial landscape for the nation. He thanked the organisers and participants for a successful night.
